Class IC anti-arrhythmic agent (membrane stabilizers).

Ethacizine delays the “fast” influx of Na+ ions through the sodium channels of the cell membrane and, to a lesser degree, delays the influx of Ca2+ ions through “slow” calcium channels, delays the spread of excitation in the myocardial conduction system, inhibits the rate of action potential growth, does not change resting potential. It possesses cholinolytic properties. Therefore it is efficient in the therapy of arrhythmias that are associated with the activation of vagus nerve. Ethacizine has moderate anti-ischaemic and local anaesthetic action.

Uses:

50 mg 2 – 3 times per day. Ethacizine should be used with caution in elderly patients, reduce the initial dose and increase it with caution; Ethacizine should be used with caution during long-term therapy in patients with liver function disorders, since hepatotoxic action of the medicinal product is possible.

Use of the medicinal product in children under 18 years of age is contraindicated.
